It’s hard to adequately describe how special our new Barrel Aged Barley Wine is. The barrel beer program at Big Rock is one that our brewers put their hearts and souls into. Quality barrels to age special brews are a hot commodity in the booming craft beer world. So, when we get news that newly sourced barrels are on their way to Big Rock… it’s BIG news!
This story begins in Barbados two years ago…
Big Rock CEO Bob Sartor was on a family holiday on the Caribbean Island when he made a point of stopping in for a tour and tasting at St. Nicholas Abbey. The historic plantation is well known for its premium rum and commitment to the traditional distillation process that has made Barbadian rum famous worldwide. Bob was so impressed with the product and their commitment to the hand-crafted process that he was determined to bring more than just the abbey’s amazing rum home with him.
Long story short, Bob was able to convince the fine folks at the abbey that they should sell us some of their rare oak rum barrels.
This weeks’ new barrel aged release has spent the last 8 months aging in those rum casks, then blended to a dark amber with notes of rum, dark fruit, and malt. Just in time for the holidays, this one will warm you up (right down to your toes), with an ABV of 10.8%. It’s pretty darn special, so share it with someone you like!
Available at finer beer stores, in Alberta only, for a limited time only.
