Warehouse & Logistics Lead Hand

Location: Calgary, AB

Description

Reporting to the Logistics Manager, the Warehouse & Logistics Lead Hand is responsible for ensuring that all processes run safely, smoothly, and efficiently. Maintaining key performance indicators, and food safety while providing training, guidance, and direction to the warehouse staff. The Lead Hand is responsible for oversight of the warehouse and handling the logistical coordination including planning warehouse and distribution related functions across several facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate the warehousing/shipping function to assure timely & quality service to external and internal customers.
  • Coordinate movement of product to and from both onsite and offsite facilities as determined by production/demand plans and Packaging Operations Manager group ensuring correct buffer inventory levels to satisfy customer demand fluctuations to minimize required working capital while maximizing fill rates and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with Vancouver Operations Coordinator to coordinate product movement impacts between Calgary-BC.
  • Focus on the effective use of storage space, equipment, and personnel resources.
  • Coordinate the finished goods inventories, determining correct buffer inventory levels to satisfy customer demand fluctuations to minimize required working capital while maximizing fill rates and customer satisfaction.
  • Oversee process of preparation of daily deliveries/movement of product including but not limited to - Pulling & picking orders, booking drivers, carrier coordination.
  • Ensure all SOPs, Standard Work instructions, and all related documents are aligned with corporate and regulatory procedures and practices.
  • Coordinate daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly reports as required/requested for KPI tracking.
  • Ensure proper execution and documentation of product, packaging and shelf-life requirements; investigating issue resolution/recoveries when requirements are not met.
  • Meet corporate objectives and service levels in accordance with Good Distribution Practices (GDP) and regulatory requirements.
  • Explore Process improvement opportunity and drive continuous change.
  • Provide direction on warehouse activities such as receiving, put away, warehousing, pick/pack and all other distribution and transportation activities.
  • Observe, revise and maintain product flow patterns for optimum operational efficiency.
  • Monitor and control all product inventory, including FIFO at each provincial warehouse.
  • Maintain flow of pallets, inventory and storage.
  • Oversee inventory cycle counts as required by various provincial liquor boards.
  • Ensure high standards of warehouse security is maintained.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of direct work experience in a related role, including at least 3 years of warehouse or supply chain management experience.
  • Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Food Safety standards Direct working experience with operations, packaging, inventory control, and transportation management.
  • Demonstrated leadership and change management skills, Lean Manufacturing a plus.
  • Flexibility and availability to work rotating shifts, overtime and weekends.
  • Able to facilitate data-driven statistical approaches to problem solving.
  • Logistics Program or Supply Chain designation (in progress or willingness to pursue) preferred.
  • Forklift License an asset.
  • Equivalent combination of comparable education and experience will be considered.
  • Valid Driver’s license.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle to travel between various offsite facilities.
  • Strong presentation, oratory, and verbal skills.
  • Proficiency with English Language.
  • Must be highly motivated, possess excellent communication skills and able to lead by example.
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including conflict resolution, and people management skills.
  • Sound leadership, staff management, and teambuilding skills.
  • Computer literate, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and e-mail.
  • Ability to adapt to and learn fast new software.
  • Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines.
  • Ability to work various shifts as required.
  • High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability.
  • Ability to listen and provide feedback constructively.
  • Excellent Organizational, and communication skills that are demonstrated by example and fosters excellence.
  • Proficient leadership skills that support the corporate culture and build successful teams.
  • Able to multitask and thrive in a fast paced, multi-faceted operation.
  • Energetic, self-motivated, and results-oriented.
  • Safety equipment will be required, e.g., steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
  • Exposed to heat and cold temperatures.
  • Possible exposure to dangerous/hazardous materials.
  • Ability to lift at least 40 kg’s.
  • Available for emergency calls after work hours.
  • Overtime as required.
  • Communicate and model the organizations Safety, GMP’s, Food Safety, and other company policies and procedures, as well as applicable federal safety standards and local laws.
  • Enforce policies regarding security and safety to maintain a safe working environment and ensure facility housekeeping and sanitation standards are met.
  • Must follow all work instructions, Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety Procedures, Illness and Disease Policy and all other company policies and procedures.
  • This is a safety sensitive position.
